Svalbard Trek's new signings, Craig Guard and Ruslans Liepezers have made quite an impact since their record signings. In some of the lower divisions we have been a spectacular success. Three races in to our new regime, results have been flying in.
The Norwegian one day race, Sinnes TT, was our first race and Trek occupied both the first and second steps on the podium at the end of the day. Our first win in five seasons and our first ever one-two.
The trick was soon repeated in the 22nd edition of the one day race Bertrix ITT. This time Craig Guard beat Liepezers to top spot. His performance in the wind and rain certainly stood out as he trounced his competition with the other competitiors making mistakes on the technical sections of the course.
Our third race of the season heralded our third win, this time Liepezers destroyed the competition and lay down a marker to everyone else in the very short but tough Klana Uphill ITT. Guard was unable to match his team mate and seemed to struggle. An unfortunately timed puncture cost him vital seconds in the race for second and he finished a creditable third.
Having only had 25 days of the new season, Svalbard Trek have been storming up the divisions. Things will definitely get tougher for the squad but we are just two results away from equalling our best ever season and one win away from taking more wins in a season than any other.
